He brought a revolutionary change in social and spiritual life of people. He was a man of faith in action, whose contribution to the society in Kerala and the Catholic Church is immense. He was a visionary who initiated reforms in the Church as well as in the society. He established the first Sanskrit school for students of all castes in a predominantly caste ridden society. In 1864, when he became the Vicar General of Syrian Catholics, he ordered to start a school adjacent to every church (palli) and thus he sowed the seeds of giving free education to economically weaker sections of the society. He had taken sincere initiative to bring 100% literacy in Kerala.
